Bringing AI Into Chain of Custody Compliance
I’m exploring how AI-supported processes can turn Chain of Custody compliance into a continuous assurance process: automated database checks that run in real time, supporting supplier assessment, goods inwards and invoicing checks, flagging problems early, and providing a clear audit trail.
What this looks like in practice
- Real-time supplier assessment — automatically checking active suppliers’ certificates against the certification databases in real time, rather than relying on someone remembering to look it up, so a lapsed, suspended or scope-changed certificate gets picked up straight away.
- Verification of COC claims on incoming documents — reading delivery notes and invoices to confirm the claimed material type, quantity, COC claim, and supplier’s Chain of Custody code are present, correctly formatted, and consistent with what the certificate database shows.
- Exception-based alerts, not extra admin — identifying only the mismatches, so your team spends time running the business, not chasing paperwork.
- A transparent audit trail — a running record of what was checked, when, and against what, giving you peace of mind and clear evidence for your certification audits.
